Guruji is an app for Hindu priests (गुरुजी / पुरोहित). It helps them manage pujas, यजमान (clients), puja material lists, ग्रंथालय, muhurta, panchang and kundli. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it and what choices you have.
1. Information we collect
a) Account information
- Full name, mobile number (with country code) and an optional email address
- Password. It is stored only in encrypted (hashed) form, and we can never see it.
- Optional profile details: profile photo, alternate or WhatsApp number, gotra, date of birth, address, city, district, state and pincode
- Referral code, and who referred you (if anyone)
b) Information you enter in the app
- यजमान (client) details: name, address and mobile number
- Puja bookings, dates, venues, dakshina and puja team details
- Kundli details: name, date, time and place of birth
- Custom puja lists (यादी), bookmarks, favourites and notes
- Names you add to festival greeting (सण शुभेच्छा) images
You add this information yourself, and only you (and the admins described in section 4) can access it. If you enter details about other people, such as your यजमान, please make sure they agree to it.
c) Payment information
Subscriptions are paid through Razorpay. We do not collect or store your card, UPI or bank details. We keep only the order ID, payment ID, plan, amount and payment status.
d) Device and usage information
- Device model, OS version, app version, login time and session details. We use these for security and to let you manage signed-in devices.
- A push notification token, so we can send you notifications
- Crash and error reports, collected through Firebase Crashlytics and Sentry
2. Device permissions
| Permission | Why we use it |

| Contacts | Only when you choose to fill in a new यजमान's details from a contact. We read just the contact you pick. Your contact list is never uploaded. |
| Camera / Photos | To take or choose a profile photo, and to save or share greeting images. |
| Microphone | Only for the माइक व स्पीकर (live mic) feature, which plays your voice through a connected speaker in real time. Audio is never recorded, stored or sent to our servers. |
| Motion sensors | For the compass (दिशा) feature. |
| Notifications | For puja reminders and announcements. |
| Storage / Files | To import or export backups and save PDFs or images. |
You can turn off any permission in your phone's settings. Only the feature that needs it will stop working.
Location: Guruji does not use GPS. You choose your Panchang city yourself. When you search for a city, the text you type is sent to OpenStreetMap (Nominatim) to find matching places.
3. How we use your information
- To create your account, check your identity and keep it secure
- To provide app features: bookings, यजमान management, kundli, lists, backup and restore
- To process subscriptions and check premium access
- To send notifications you asked for, or important service announcements
- To fix crashes and improve the app
- To meet legal and tax requirements
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.
4. Who can see your data
- Guruji administrators: to approve new accounts, help with support and manage subscriptions
- Service providers who help run the app, only as far as they need to:
- Razorpay (payments)
- Google Firebase (notifications, crash reports)
- Sentry (error monitoring)
- Our cloud hosting provider
- Legal authorities, when Indian law requires it
5. Data storage and security
Your data is stored on secure servers. Data sent between the app and our servers is encrypted (HTTPS). Login tokens are kept in your phone's secure storage. Passwords are hashed. You can sign out of all devices at any time. No system is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data.
6. How long we keep data
We keep your data while your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data as described on our Account Deletion page. The exception is payment records, which we must keep for the period required by Indian tax and accounting laws.
7. Your rights
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can:
- Access and correct your information (most of it can be edited inside the app)
- Ask us to delete your account and data
- Withdraw consent by deleting your account
- Raise a complaint with our Grievance Officer
8. Children
Guruji is meant for adults (18+). We do not knowingly collect data from children.
9. Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we will change the "Last updated" date above and, for major changes, tell you in the app.
